My friend, Teacher Tom, has been on a rant about “Classroom Management”. He’s right, it can be just another term for coaxing, commanding, controlling.
“Classroom Management” at The Meadow Preschool is the physical environment and the atmosphere of safety and cooperation. “Classroom Management” at The Meadow Preschool is COLLABORATIVELY GROWN TOGETHER.
Preschool age children are constantly building and challenging meaning in their world. By asking children questions like “Is this kind?”, “Is this safe?”, “Is it working?”, “How?”, we can assist them in creating their own understanding of how to successfully be with others.
It takes time. It takes patience.
Instead of pushing and bribing children to make acceptable choices, let’s walk with them, discovering together how to BE in the world.
